You say that “you can’t legislate morality” – I think that you need to define your terms. If you mean “make laws” when you say “legislate,” consider: every law is someone’s morality! Someone must have thought slavery was immoral to make a law against it. Someone must have thought it was morally right for women to be allowed to vote… and so on.

If however, when you say “legislate” you mean “force people,” then I would agree with you. We can’t force people to behave in a moral way. But that doesn’t mean that we don’t pass laws! I can’t force people not to steal, but I still like laws that encourage people not to steal.

Be careful with your terms, because you sound like you don’t think that there is an absolute right and wrong that should be encouraged in an orderly society.

I think part of our instructions to “love one another” and “bear one another’s burdens” includes watching out for each other – in this case, taking care of those around you.

“Whatever you have done for the least of these, you have done for me.”

There are times at work that I have to intercede for those I work with; not easy, but necessary.

I’m sorry. I didn’t realize that I was being this way. Just kidding. I think it should be addressed. It will continue and possibly get worse if no one approaches this person.

He or she has been rude to you by his or her treatment of others in your presence. So you are personally effected, it does concern you.

I once had a boss like that! I prayed hard for the power to hold my tongue and not make an embarassing scene for everyone involved and not getting fired myself. God worked it out, thankfully.

If he had been a friend, I would have addressed his rudeness out of love, even if it cost me the friendship.

I am the first to admit that I am guilty of this. Until two days ago I would talk to my husband about everything I heard that Obama was doing or proposing. Until he went off. Then I decided to keep my mouth shut and stew over it in my mind.
